World Down Syndrome Day
World Down Syndrome Day is an annual March 21 celebration and global awareness day observed by the United Nations since 2012. March 21 was selected to signify the uniqueness of the triplication (trisomy) of the 21st chromosome which causes Down syndrome.
The goal is to educate others on the importance of supporting our friends and family who have experienced life with Down syndrome. It also gives people with Down Syndrome and their advocates a voice and an opportunity to be heard. It’s a day where we assemble and organize activities to promote public awareness of the genetic disorder.
