International Left-Handers Day is an international day observed annually on August 13 to celebrate the uniqueness and differences of left-handed individuals. The day was first observed in 1976 by Dean R. Campbell, founder of Lefthanders International, Inc.

International Left-handers Day Also known as:

Goofy Footed

And my favourite…..

In a world designed for those that use their right hand predominately, here’s a shout out to all the Lefties out there that put up with….

  • Scissors – they face the wrong way and are so clunky to use!
  • Not being able to use Vegetable peelers easily – blade the wrong way.
  • Can openers – urgh – almost impossible.
  • Ice-cream scoop with a lever on side….um the WRONG side
  • Writing on paper! We can’t see what we are writing – left to right…and….
  • Pen smudges across the paper as we write! Pen blotches on hand and paper!
  • Blackboards – we literally wipe off the chalk as we write!
  • The writing on a cup/mug faces the wrong way – so much for the funny quote!
  • Position at the table to eat…we gotta sit to the left otherwise we just get knocked constantly.
  • Swiping credit card – you almost get into a yoga position to swipe cleanly.
  • Chainsaws – there’s literally not a single left-handed chainsaw in production!

But it’s not all doom and gloom!

Lefties are renowned for being more creative!

They are more likely to be good communicators!

And they make better drivers having fewer accidents than their counterparts! (I always knew I was a good driver, just didn’t realise why – hehe).

Did you also know that most children of left-handed parents are right-handed?  So, the trait isn’t automatically ‘handed down’.

Lefties make up only 10% of the population.

Interesting huh?

And here are some famous lefties:

Barrak Obama

Bill Gates

Oprah Winfrey

Prince William

Leonardo Di Vinci

Aristotle

Ned Flanders (hehe)

Jimmy Hendrix

Kurt Cobain

Paul McCartney

Lady Gaga

Justin Bieber

Adam Levine

Marilyn Monroe

Nicole Kidman

Julia Roberts

Meet Angie our Training & Marketing Manager

Her passion for helping people started from a very young age; She loved pretending to be mum to her siblings!  The first charity work she did was way back in Year 8 at school when she volunteered to help with ‘Meals on Wheels’. She said “I enjoyed meeting the old folk and chatting about fun topics to make them smile.  This ignited my enthusiasm for helping people.  I wanted to make a difference and contribute to other people’s happiness”.
