Have you met Rodem yet? In this world facing a lot of challenges, yet there are still people who are thriving. Aspiring people who are always trying. And even people with physical disability are worth trying. Living their lives with full hopes and strengths. And this same goes to our Elderly.

According to Achieve Australia, a physical disability is a physical condition that affects a person’s mobility, physical capacity, stamina, or dexterity. This can include brain or spinal cord injuries. Multiple Sclerosis, cerebral palsy, respiratory disorders, epilepsy, hearing and visual impairments.
The reasons for physical disability are also varied. They usually fall into one of two categories:

Hereditary/Congenital – where a person has been born with a physical disability. Developed one due to inherited genetic problems. Anda has suffered an injury at birth or has issues with their muscles.
Acquired – An acquired physical disability could be due to an accident, infection, disease or as a side effect of a medical condition.

Using Assistive Technology, Elderly can now have their freedom and safety, especially for the disabled ones. The Rodem is accessible and capable of people who need to utilize it. Through this, we can empower and allow the disabled and elderly people to maintain a certain level of control over their surroundings and daily activities.

On November 29, 2017, Japan’s robot manufacturer Tmsuk president Yoichi Takamoto rides a personal mover for elderly people. It is called “Rodem”.

Rodem was developed to realize a stress-free environment.
It is a fresh product, which was created from scratch. And not from existing concepts.
Giving the rider more access to different places will improve his/her quality of life.

A robotic wheelchair that can get life easier for seniors and people with physical disabilities. The Rodem gives you a ride from your bed or sofa to anywhere in your home. Its seat protrudes backwards and diagonally downward, allowing you to straddle from behind.

Depending on the rider’s intention, the RODEM can be a robot, a vehicle or a wheelchair.
RODEM’s universal design makes it a newly robotic mobility device, TRANS-ROID.

Watching the Rodem video, two things are obvious. Getting in and out of this new wheelchair is so very easy for someone with mobility limitations. The other clear differentiator is that the traditional seat has been removed. It looks more as if the person is riding a horse than sitting in a chair.

Here are the usages of Rodem in different scenarios.

1. Getting Up

Easy-transfer from your bed. Adjust the seat height, and get on the RODEM from the rear.

2. Eating

The base of the RODEM can fit under the table, making mealtime more enjoyable.

3. Washing

When the RODEM’s seat is raised, you can lean forward, so it is very convenient for washing your face and doing kitchen work.

What are the benefits of having a Rodem?
